Ukraine is not Putin's final stop – Dutch Defense Minister
Ukraine is not Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s final stop, and Kyiv should not agree to a deal that would lead to another interwar period
Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stated this, as reported by The Guardian.
According to the minister, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should not accept an agreement that creates a constant looming threat of renewed aggression. Instead, he must negotiate from a position of strength.
"Putin has made it clear that Ukraine is not the final stop in his campaign to reclaim an imperial past. He will continue his aggressive, expansionist attempts to increase Russia’s influence and territory in pursuit of his dream to restore the 'Russian world,'" Brekelmans emphasized.
The minister added that "this is a dream for Putin and a nightmare for the rest of Europe."
"It’s time to make Putin understand that his dreams do not align with reality," Brekelmans concluded.
- A majority of Ukrainians—66%—believe Russia's goal is the destruction of Ukraine, physical genocide, and the elimination of Ukrainian statehood.
