Ukraine may have targeted Russian nuclear forces, Putin's decree calls it 'red line' - Newsweek

Newsweek suggested that Ukraine could have crossed Putin's "nuclear red line” when Ukrainian drones targeted the 590th separate radio engineering center of military unit 84680 in the city of Kovilkino

The media outlet reacted to the attack of Ukrainian drones on the Russian 29B6 Container radar located in the city of Kovilkino. Kovilkino is in the Mordovia Republic, some 360 miles from the Ukrainian border. 

"If the Container radar system was affected, the attacks may have met one of the "conditions determining the possibility of the Russian Federation using nuclear weapons," as set out by the 2020 presidential decree," the article says.

Sources say the outcome of Wednesday's attack has yet to be established. According to Ukrainian media accounts, the site's command post building was destroyed during the April 11 strike, while Russian officials reported that two drones were shot down.

29B6 Container is over-the-horizon radar, which forms part of Russia's reconnaissance and early-warning network for aerospace attacks.
