Bloomberg reported the information.

The UK Ministry of Defense announced that, under a £118 million ($159 million) contract, the British government will acquire six new Land Ceptor systems from the multinational European arms manufacturer MBDA over the next three years.

The systems include modular anti-aircraft missiles capable of striking “a target the size of a tennis ball moving at twice the speed of sound,” along with launchers and support vehicles.

The deal was signed against the backdrop of ongoing talks between European and U.S. defense officials on the shape of future security guarantees for Ukraine should a peace agreement with Russia be reached. Air defense is seen as a central element of the so-called “coalition of the willing” — a group of states led by Britain and France that are prepared to deploy troops and military systems away from the front line in Ukraine. The coalition envisions combining such deployments with U.S. support to enable intelligence sharing, border surveillance, arms supplies, and potentially strengthened air defense.

Although U.S. President Donald Trump has ruled out sending American troops to Ukraine, he told Fox News earlier this week that he is open to discussing the deployment of American air defense systems that can counter advanced threats such as long-range ballistic missiles.

The new missiles for the British Army will be integrated into the Sky Sabre air defense system, which forms the backbone of the UK’s ground-based air defense. The system was previously deployed on NATO’s eastern flank in southeastern Poland between 2022 and 2024, where it played a crucial role in facilitating the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine and ensuring the safe movement of Ukrainian troops undergoing training.

The air defense system is used to counter various air threats, including fighter jets, drones, and cruise missiles, and can be deployed anywhere in the world. The UK Ministry of Defense said the system can simultaneously fire 24 missiles to intercept individual targets.

“Doubling our deployable Sky Sabre capability will strengthen the UK’s air defenses, protect UK forces abroad, and deter our adversaries,” said Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard.
