While aboard Air Force One on March 30, Trump explained that the deadline serves as a psychological factor and expressed hope that Russia will reach a ceasefire agreement before it expires.
"It's a psychological deadline. If I think they're tapping us along, I will not be happy about it," Trump said when asked by a journalist if there was a deadline for Russia to agree to the ceasefire.

He also suggested that Russian leader Vladimir Putin "wants to make a deal" on the truce, although when asked if Russia was delaying the talks, Trump said he did not know.
