Trump is “very angry” with Putin, threatens new duties on Russian oil
American leader Donald Trump was “very angry” and “pissed off” when Russian leader Vladimir Putin questioned the authority of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the U.S. president, such statements are “not going in the right location”
He said this during an interview with NBC News.
Trump responded to Putin's call for an interim government in Ukraine, a move that could effectively remove Zelenskyy from power.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump said during a phone interview with NBC News.
He further stated that anyone purchasing Russian oil would be barred from doing business in the United States.
“There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25- to 50-point tariff on all oil... There will be a 25% tariff on oil and other products sold in the United States, secondary tariffs,” Trump said.
The U.S. president also said that Putin knows he is angry, but noted that he has “a very good relationship with him” and “the anger dissipates quickly ... if he does the right thing.”
The American leader said he plans to speak with Putin next week.
