He made the remarks during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the Oval Office, The Guardian reported.
According to Trump, Russia’s advances over the past two weeks in Ukraine have been minimal.
“I’m not going to ever call anybody a paper tiger, but Russia spent millions and millions of dollars in bombs, missiles, ammunition and lives, their lives, and they’ve gained virtually no land,” he added.
- Earlier, after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York, Trump said Russia resembled a “paper tiger” and that Ukraine, with European Union support, could not only restore its territory “in its original form” but “go even further.”
- In response, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed Trump’s statement as incorrect.
