Trump reduces negotiations to a marketplace

10 ways Trump is worsening the situation for Ukraine through his negotiation approach. How do the actions and statements coming from Trump’s Washington weaken the positions of the U.S., Ukraine, and the EU in negotiations with Russia?

President Trump’s statements on Ukraine have undermined the negotiation process from the outset. His firm declaration that Ukraine will never join NATO, along with his position that occupied Ukrainian territories will never be returned, has closed doors rather than opened them. Some matters are not publicly disclosed but are part of the negotiations.

Upon taking office, President Trump undermined a core principle of the UN Charter: the territorial integrity of sovereign states.

Trump's claims to Greenland, Canada, and Panama are a demonstration of a policy of force, not law. This is where all sorts of statements about Ukraine's territorial concessions come from.

Donald Trump has neglected the succession. All the signatures and commitments of the United States are worthless to Trump. He does not accept anything that his predecessors did, and he has declared himself the greatest of presidents, equating himself with Washington.

Diplomacy has ceased to be a sphere of solving international problems. The world has fallen... morally and professionally. No one is interested in the level of intelligence anymore. Remember the level of diplomacy during President Zelenskyy's scandalous meeting with Trump in the Oval Office.

The configuration of the negotiations has been completely destroyed. Previously, there was an axis of evil and a coalition of freedom and democracy. President Trump seeks to use Europe and Ukraine as a resource. Europe is not a full-fledged participant in the negotiations, but there is a solid Trump ego instead.

President Trump is not guided by international law or morality in his actions, so all negotiations and meetings have turned into a marketplace. The whole world owes Trump. And his appetites are growing. An example is the latest draft of the minerals agreement, where the American side wants everything... and more.

Trump has deprived the world of a number of tools that were used to resolve bilateral and multilateral relations. In particular, this applies to the UN, WHO, ICC, and IAEA. Trump does not need institutions, he wants to solve issues on his own. But it doesn't work that way.

The tariff issue clearly demonstrated that President Trump is on the side of the aggressor, not the victim. The duty for Ukraine is 10%, and for Russia it is 0%.

President Trump has politically revived Vladimir Putin on the global stage, rehabilitating the image of a criminal and murderer who is under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

The talks are turning into a closed-door marketplace and are aimed at achieving only one goal: establishing relations between the Moscow Fuhrer and Donald Trump. Trump has no peace plan for Ukraine and never had one. Ukraine, in fulfilling Trump's desire, was only a road to the Nobel Peace Prize. The U.S. president, who believes in his immense greatness, thought that he could easily resolve the problem of the Russian-Ukrainian war and reap the dividends of victory. But this did not happen. It is obvious that the negotiations have reached a dead end. The only thing that will work against the Kremlin is force. And Donald Trump will be looking for an excuse to jump out of the negotiations and shift the blame onto Europe.
