Trump, his circle trapped by pro-Russian statements, says Crimean Tatar leader
The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Refat Chubarov, believes that U.S. President Donald Trump and his inner circle have fallen into a trap of their own pro-Russian rhetoric and are now testing the Ukrainian government on the issue of territorial concessions
He made the statement in an interview with Radio Liberty's Krym.Realii project.
“Trump and his entourage ended up in a trap entirely of their own making. Just recall the stream of friendly messages directed toward Putin and Russia long before any negotiations even began. That’s when Moscow got the wrong idea… all of Russia’s imperial nature came to the surface,” Chubarov said.
“Now, it seems to me — and I emphasize this is my assumption — the Trump administration is testing Ukraine’s leadership and political class by floating various trial balloons about territorial concessions, supposedly necessary to end the Russia-Ukraine war and achieve lasting peace.”
The Mejlis leader also warned that such provocations are likely to continue. He stressed that Kyiv must maintain a firm rejection of any, even hypothetical, proposals for territorial concessions in exchange for peace, and that the government should “respond firmly in every case, especially when real politicians are behind such suggestions.”
- U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will reveal full details of a "peace agreement" between Russia and Ukraine within the next three days.
