Trump acts based on his nature, not political strategists' instructions – American expert Smart
Jason Smart, an American political strategist, noted that while Americans support Trump in wanting to end the war in Ukraine quickly, they generally have a rather superficial understanding of the issue
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“In my opinion, there is often a problem, unfortunately, when public opinion must align with what the president does. Around 80% of Americans support Ukrainians, and those who do not are generally pro-Russian and accept the disinformation currently circulating. Overall, 57% of Republicans want the war in Ukraine to end, and there are various reasons for this, but they simply lack a broad understanding of what has happened in Ukraine,” the political strategist commented.
According to him, Americans understand that the war in Ukraine has been ongoing for a long time, with blood being shed, but they do not grasp which cities are involved or the specifics of the peace talks.
“Americans don’t even really understand what NATO is; they think it’s something like an insurance policy in case someone attacks the United States. Unfortunately, Americans have a shallow understanding of this issue. So, while they want the war to end as soon as possible, they hope Putin will become a peacemaker and contribute to this. But experts who study this topic understand that the decisions at stake are shaped by what Trump impulsively or emotionally decides. Trump is not acting based on advice from political strategists; he’s acting according to his nature: he wants the war to end, people to stop dying, and the sooner, the better. That’s his approach, but unfortunately, it’s not that simple,” Jason Smart summarized.
- On March 7, The Hill reported that Republican lawmakers are urging U.S. President Donald Trump to resume military assistance to Ukraine and intelligence-sharing. They believe that a prolonged suspension of support could weaken Kyiv's position in negotiations with Russia.
