What will help Ukraine withstand Russia's onslaught in May-June?
Oleksiy Hetman, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and reserve major of the National Guard, asserts that military assistance from partners, mobilization, and fortification construction are essential to halt the enemy's offensive
He stated this on Espreso.
"To withstand the expected Russian onslaught in May-June, we require three components. The first relies on our partners – weapons, ammunition, and shells. The second is mobilization within Ukraine, which is our responsibility. The third component, also our responsibility, involves fortification construction capable of withstanding enemy attacks. While we rightly demand action from our partners regarding the first component, our effectiveness in addressing the other two components remains lacking," commented the war veteran.
According to him, if Ukraine had adequately addressed mobilization and fortifications, it would be in a stronger position to demand assistance from partners regarding shells and weapons.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced at the end of March the possibility of a new Russian offensive in Ukraine by the end of May or in June. He highlighted Russia's advantage in long-range firepower in an "artillery war of attrition." In addition, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, stated that Russia may launch a new large-scale offensive at the end of spring or the beginning of summer, with the strategic target being Pokrovsk.
