Ukraine suffers record territorial losses in May — DeepState
In May, the Russian army occupied 449 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory—the worst monthly figure in 2025. Territorial losses surpassed the 200 square kilometer per month mark that had held since February
The OSINT project DeepState reported the information.
The largest amount of lost territory was in the area of the Russian breakthrough along the Pokrovsk - Kostiantynivka highway in the Donetsk region, where about 200 sq. km were occupied, as well as the Russian offensive operation in Sumy region, where at least 110 sq. km were lost by the end of the month.
According to analysts, these two areas account for 70% of all territorial losses.
In addition, notable Russian advances were recorded near Bahatyr and near the border with Dnipropetrovsk region, with 45-50 sq. km occupied in each area.
On the Lyman front, Russia somewhat slowed down and occupied only 28 sq. km, but by the end of the month, the situation near Karpivka began to deteriorate and fighting continues.
"Effectively, these 5 areas account for 95% of all enemy advances," DeepState noted.
- On Monday, June 2, it became known that Russian forces captured the settlement of Kostiantynivka in the Sumy region.
