Taiwan joins Ukraine demining coalition, pledges $2 million
Taiwan has joined the international coalition for demining Ukraine, which is coordinated by Lithuania and Iceland, and announced a contribution of $2 million
Lithuania's Defense Ministry reported the information.
The ministry noted that their representatives held a meeting with the Taiwanese delegation in Vilnius, where they discussed support for Ukraine, particularly in the context of demining operations.
"During the meeting, Taiwan expressed its intention to contribute to Lithuania's demining efforts in Ukraine, donating $2 million to the Coalition Fund," the Lithuanian ministry stated.
It was also emphasized that Taiwan's involvement in the coalition's work is crucial, as Lithuanian officials highlighted how democratic countries can unite efforts for Ukraine's security and reconstruction.
"Taiwan and Lithuania unanimously recognize the importance and necessity of cooperation in demining Ukraine. Both sides acknowledged that unexploded remnants of war pose a serious threat to civilian safety and are a major obstacle to socio-economic progress in the conflict-affected regions," the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said.
