Szijjártó claims Ukraine's attack halted oil supplies to Hungary
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on the Druzhba oil pipelinehas led to a suspension of oil transportation to Hungary
He made this claim in a video address on Facebook, as cited by Ujszo.
Szijjártó spoke about his conversation with Russia's deputy prime minister, who is responsible for energy affairs. According to the Russian official, due to the alleged Ukrainian attack, oil supplies to Hungary through the Druzhba pipeline are currently impossible. However, repair work is underway, and deliveries are expected to resume soon.
"If the Druzhba oil pipeline becomes inoperable, then oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia will become physically and practically impossible... We have repeatedly made this position clear in Brussels, and the European Commission also gave guarantees that there would be no attacks on Hungary's energy infrastructure. Unfortunately, this is yet another violation of the European Commission’s guarantees," Szijjártó said.
The minister also urged Ukrainians to refrain from attacking Hungary's energy infrastructure.
At the same time, Szijjártó emphasized that Budapest is not responsible for Russia’s war against Ukraine and expressed hope that President Trump’s peace efforts will be successful this week.
- On January 27, it was reported that Hungary reached a compromise with the European Union, preventing the risk of lifting sanctions against Russia.
