The Sumy Regional Military District Administration and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.

Thus, on the morning of June 4, it became known that six victims, including three children, were in serious condition after yesterday's strike. One child is being prepared for transportation to Okhmatdyt for further treatment.

A total of 30 people sought medical help, with 16 currently hospitalized.

As of 6:58 p.m., rescue teams had completed work at seven strike sites in Sumy. The Russian shelling killed four people and injured 28, including three children.

"In the damaged houses, the broken windows and roof in the high-rise building were temporarily repaired. Sappers of the State Emergency Service examined the area and removed the remains of explosive devices," the State Emergency Service wrote.

"The Russians hit cars in the center of Sumy. Preliminary, there are victims," the statement said.

Later, the State Emergency Service clarified that the attack killed three people and injured at least 16 others.

Later, the number of victims increased to 25, the city council reported. In particular, three children and three adults are in serious condition.

At 4:13 p.m., the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that a 43-year-old man in critical condition had died in hospital. This brings the death toll to four.

It was noted that the 7-year-old daughter of the deceased man was seriously injured.

According to preliminary data, five long-range MLRS hits were recorded in Sumy around 9:00 a.m.

Thus, a shell hit the road surface in one of the city's districts. The explosion caused a car to catch fire, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

In another neighborhood, an apartment building was damaged, as well as 3 private houses, a warehouse building, a garage, 4 cars and one of the hospital buildings.

Rescuers, medics and law enforcement officers are working at the scene.

In connection with the tragedy that occurred as a result of a Russian attack on the city of Sumy and led to the deaths of people, the Sumy City Territorial Community declared June 3 and 4 as Days of Mourning.

Viacheslav Riabchenko, a deputy of the Sumy District Council and a volunteer, called the attack on the city's central districts a manifestation of the Russian impotence on Espreso TV.

"There were four arrivals. One, as far as I know, according to witnesses, the missile hit the eighth floor and did not explode. There is a person who got to the hospital in an ambulance but did not undergo surgery. He died in the hospital, and they failed to save him. These are not the first cases, yesterday it was also similar to the arrival of cluster munitions at an infrastructure facility. People are panicking, scared, but no one is going to leave immediately. Everyone is staying put, they believe in the Ukrainian Armed Forces," assured Riabchenko.

President's reaction

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the Russian attack on Sumy and said that the Russians had brutally attacked ordinary streets with rocket artillery. He called it an absolutely deliberate attack on civilians.

According to Zelenskyy, there is at least one unexploded MLRS shell. This shell pierced the wall of a room in an ordinary apartment on the 9th floor.

"Everything you need to know about Russia's ‘desire’ to end this war. It is obvious that without the pressure of the world, without decisive steps by the United States, Europe and everyone in the world who has power, Putin will not even agree to a ceasefire. Not a single day does Russia stop its attacks on the cities and villages of Ukraine. Every day we lose our people to Russian terror. Every day Russia gives reasons to strengthen sanctions against it and increase support for our defense. And I thank everyone in the world who promotes this agenda: sanctions for aggression and killing people, help to protect the lives of Ukrainians," the President added.

  • On the evening of June 2 and during the night of June 3, the Russian military launched strike drones over Ukrainian territory.
