Ukraine's Security Service detains Russian aggression ideologue Dmitry Chistilin in Moldova
The Security Service of Ukraine jointly with Moldovan law enforcement officers detained and served a notice of suspicion to Dmitry Chistilin, the Kremlin ideologue of Russia's armed aggression
The Security Service of Ukraine reported the information.
The Security Service, together with foreign partners and the State Border Guard Service, conducted a special operation during which Dmitry Chistilin was detained. He is an assistant to Putin's ex-advisor Sergei Glazyev, one of the main "moderators" of the Russian occupation of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and the developer of the "Information Warfare Strategy," which justified the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"During 2016-2024, Chistilin prepared a number of ‘analytical materials’ for the Kremlin, in which he supported Russia's armed aggression and the ‘integration’ of the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine into Russia," the Security Service said.
Law enforcement officers also found that Chistilin was actively involved in promoting the Kremlin's interests outside Russia. He organized interference in electoral processes in Eastern and Central Europe in favor of Russia.
In addition, the suspect took part in so-called roundtables in European countries, allegedly acting on behalf of the Ukrainian public. During such events, he spread Kremlin narratives, hoping to reduce support for Ukraine from Western partners.
"After Chistilin's participation in one of these ‘forums’, he was detained in cooperation with law enforcement officers of the Republic of Moldova when he tried to return to Moscow through the territory of third countries," law enforcement officials said.
Chistilin is currently in custody. He has also been notified of being suspected under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- p. 2, Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
- p. 3 of Art. 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
- Ukraine's Security Service served suspicion notices to Pushilin and two accomplices who deported at least 31 Ukrainian children to Russia from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk region.
