SBU prevents four terrorist attacks in Kyiv timed to May 9, detains Russian agents
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) detains Russian GRU agent-combat group that was preparing four terrorist attacks in Kyiv ahead of May 9 in construction hypermarkets and near a cafe
The SBU reported the information.
Russian GRU agents disguised improvised explosive devices as tea boxes. They consisted of a timer, a detonator, and plastic explosives with incendiary mixture that was intended to cause large-scale fires.
The Russian special service planned to detonate the explosives during the peak hours of attendance at Kyiv construction hypermarkets. At the same time, the Rassians wanted to place it among flammable materials so that the fire could not be quickly extinguished.

The SBU added that another terrorist attack was to take place near a cafe in Kyiv: Russian agents were trying to plant explosive devices in a car parked nearby.
“In this way, the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (better known as the GRU) wanted to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, as well as send a signal on the symbolic day of May 9 about the alleged presence of the Russian underground in Kyiv, which is waiting for the 'Russian world,'" the statement said.

According to SBU counterintelligence, the curator of the hostile attacks is Yuri Sizov, a GRU officer serving in military unit 92154. He personally gave instructions and recorded a video instruction on how to install an explosive device in a store of a similar chain in the Moscow region.
In addition, Sizov was responsible for sabotage attacks in the Lviv region that were supposed to take place in February this year, but were prevented by the SBU.
“Now the Security Service has identified the entire chain of this network, including agent groups, smugglers who delivered explosives from the territory of Russia, as well as the direct perpetrators of the terrorist attack: they were detained red-handed when they were installing explosive devices in the third hypermarket,” the statement emphasizes.
The detainees were notified of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: high treason (Article 111), sabotage (Article 113) and terrorist act (Article 258).
The defendants face life imprisonment.
On May 11, Ukrainska Pravda, Suspilne, and RBC-Ukraine reported, citing SBU spokesman Artem Dekhtiarenko, that the SBU had prevented provocations and terrorist attacks planned by the Russian GRU in Kyiv for May 9. The suspects were detained red-handed.
It is noted that the terrorist attacks were planned by Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate, better known as the GRU.
“The SBU was proactive, the perpetrators of the terrorist attack were detained red-handed. We have also collected evidence that unequivocally confirms the Russian trace,” Dekhtiarenko said.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
