'Salami strategy': former MP on Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities
Victoria Voitsitska, Director of Advocacy in the Energy Sector at the International Center for Ukrainian Victory, has commented on Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities
She expressed her opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"Russia, unfortunately, has started massive attacks on energy facilities that supply electricity to the frontline regions, primarily to the regions bordering the Russian Federation. I'm talking about the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions, the city of Kharkiv. Unfortunately, we see that the enemy has started to hit the facilities that belong directly to the regional power distribution companies in the respective regions. These are substations that transmit electricity to consumers directly," she said.
Viktoriia Voitsitska noted that the enemy is currently using tactics to cut off certain regions from electricity supply.
"In the winter of 22-23, it was Ukrenergo's transmission systems, i.e. our main facilities, and in the spring of this year they were attacking our generation. Now it looks like they are using a kind of salami strategy, cutting off power supply to certain regions and settlements. Creating conditions for them, where, unfortunately, there are blackouts or partial electricity supplies," the former MP believes.
