Russia’s Shahed drone attack on June 11 kills and injures dozens in Kharkiv, including children

Massive UAV raid on Kharkiv

At around 0:33 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported a massive attack by Russian UAVs. Several drones were spotted in the sky above the city, heading for Kharkiv. Citizens were urged to exercise maximum caution.

Two minutes later, at 0:35 a.m., it became known that the strikes had been carried out, first in the Osnovianskyi district. A fire broke out at the site of one of the hits. The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, said that drones hit a trolleybus depot and residential buildings in the Sloboda district. There were also car fires.

At 3:00 a.m. he wrote: "At this moment, 9 victims have been taken to Kharkiv hospitals, including a 2-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy. Doctors are providing all necessary assistance to the victims."

Terekhov summarized: "From 00:31 a.m. to 00:40 a.m., the Russian aggressors struck two districts of Kharkiv - Slobidskyi and Osnovianskyi - with 17 Shahed-type attack drones. There were direct hits on high-rise buildings, private homes, playgrounds, businesses, and public transportation. There are burning apartments, destroyed roofs, burnt out cars, and broken windows. We have 2 dead and 37 injured, including 5 children. Several people were rescued from the burning houses. Trolleybuses, overhead power lines, utility and industrial facilities were damaged. All these are ordinary objects of peaceful life. The ones that should never be targeted. Utilities and emergency services, volunteers are working tirelessly to eliminate the consequences, help the victims, and restore gas, electricity and water supply."

Rescue operations, evacuation of residents and elimination of the consequences are underway, the State Emergency Service added.

As of 4:10 a.m., 54 people have been reported injured and 2 dead in Kharkiv. According to the State Emergency Service, there are 8 children among the victims.

Around 8 a.m., as Syniehubov wrote, the number of victims increased to 57. Doctors are providing the necessary assistance to the wounded.

Yevhen Vasylenko, a spokesman for the Kharkiv Oblast State Emergency Service, told Espreso that emergency rescue operations are underway at the site of one of the Russian strikes. In particular, in a five-story residential building where the body of a dead person was found.

"We are now taking measures to partially dismantle the structure and only then will we be able to provide full information about the victims and the dead. Currently, we know about 2 dead and more than 60 injured people," he said.

According to the preliminary information of the Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, two people were killed and 60 others were injured, including 9 children.

In the morning, a 65-year-old man died in the burn intensive care unit, having been hospitalized in extremely serious condition with deep, extensive burns, the head of the Regional Military Administration wrote.

Consequences in Odesa region

The State Emergency Service reports that country houses, outbuildings, cars and civilian boats in Odesa region have been destroyed and damaged.
