Russia’s FM Lavrov claims Putin allegedly ready to accept “U.S. concept on Ukraine war”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is allegedly ready to agree to the concept proposed by the United States for settling the war against Ukraine

Lavrov stated that Putin is prepared to “move forward in practical terms on the proposed basis,” Russian state outlet TASS reported.

However, according to the Russian Foreign Minister, Washington has not yet given a direct response to this proposal. He added that both sides agreed to take a pause to consider the initiatives.

The reported U.S. proposal envisions halting hostilities along the current front line.

  • On October 17, during a closed meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, American officials presented what they described as the Kremlin’s plan — Ukraine would give up Donbas in exchange for small parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Zelenskyy rejected the idea, after which U.S. President Donald Trump publicly stated that the current front lines should be frozen.
  • On October 22, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, citing Moscow’s unwillingness to end the war in Ukraine. 
  • A day later, on October 23, the European Union formally approved its 19th package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia through a written procedure.
