Russia attacks Ukraine with Shahed drones, missiles: explosions rock Kyiv
On the evening of September 29, Russian forces launched drones and missiles against Ukraine. Explosions were heard in Kyiv, its surrounding region, and Kryvyi Rih

Explosions in Kryvyi Rih
At 12:39 AM, the Air Force announced the launch of ballistic missiles from the south. Simultaneously, military authorities urged Kryvyi Rih residents to seek shelter. Shortly after, reports confirmed multiple missile launches targeting the city.
By 12:43 AM, Suspilne confirmed explosions in Kryvyi Rih.
Kyiv and region under attack
In Kyiv and its surroundings, air defense systems were active throughout the night.
At 4:44 AM, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that air defenses were engaging in Obolon. Multiple Shahed drones were spotted above and near Kyiv.
The Kyiv City Military Administration confirmed that Russia deployed attack drones during the night. Waves of explosive UAVs swarmed Kyiv from various directions.
The air raid alert lasted over five hours. All attacking drones that posed a threat to Kyiv were successfully neutralized by air defense. Initial reports indicate no casualties or significant damage in the capital.
Mayor Klitschko added that debris from an enemy UAV was found near a residential area in the Obolonsky district. Emergency services were on the scene.
Damage across Kyiv region
Kyiv region head, Ruslan Kravchenko, reported that the air raid alert persisted for seven hours. Air defense systems in the region effectively destroyed incoming threats. There were no casualties, and critical infrastructure was unharmed. Debris from downed drones was discovered in six districts. In five districts, debris from destroyed drones ignited grass and stubble fires.
In one district, debris caused a fire in a private home. In another, fragments landed in a cemetery, causing damage.
