The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this as of 4:00 p.m. on August 21.

"Terrorists are destroying Ukrainian towns and villages with air and missile strikes and numerous artillery attacks," the Armed Forces wrote.

Since the beginning of the day, 54 combat clashes have taken place. The situation is the most intense in the Pokrovsk sector.

Frontline situation

Russian troops are actively using aviation in the Kursk region. There were 17 air strikes involving 27 guided aerial bombs on Russian settlements.

Russia is using artillery to shell Ukrainian border settlements, including Porozok and Poznia in the Sumy region.

In the Kharkiv sector, four firefights took place near Lypky and Vovchansk since the beginning of the day, two of them are ongoing.

In the Kupyansk sector, Russian troops stormed Ukrainian positions 9 times near Petropavlivka, Synkivka, Stelmakhivka, Berestove, and in the area of Andriivka. The situation is tense near Stelmakhivka, where 4 hostile attacks are currently underway.

In the Lyman sector, the Russian army attacked in the areas of Torske, Novoserhiivka, Makiivka, Hrekivka, and Serhiivka. In total, there have been 9 combat engagements in this sector since the beginning of the day, and 2 are still ongoing. The situation is under control.

Russia tries to break through Ukrainian defense in the Siversk sector, but receives a worthy rebuff from Ukrainian defenders. For example, near Spirne, the invaders tried to push Ukrainian units once, without success.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian troops tried to drive Ukrainian troops from their positions five times since the beginning of the day. Ukrainian defenders repelled all assaults near Hryhorika, Chasiv Yar, and Predtechyno.

In the Toretsk sector, the Russian army attacked the Ukrainian forces’ positions 5 times. The fighting near Toretsk is currently underway, and the invaders have already dropped 11 guided bombs on the city.

The situation in the Pokrovsk sector remains tense. Ukrainian troops repelled 11 attacks in the areas of Panteleimonivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Zelene Pole, Myroliubivka, Hrodivka, Mykolaivka, Novohrodivka, Mykhailivka, and Ptychke. Fighting continues in 4 locations.

In the Kurakhove sector, Russia attacked Ukrainian units 5 times since the beginning of the day. It tried to advance near Heorhiivka, Kostiantynivka, and Pobieda.

The invading forces are not yet actively engaged in the Vremivka, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi sectors, but they are launching airstrikes. For example, Piatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, Olhivka and Burhunka in the Kherson region were shelled with unguided aerial missiles, and in the Kherson region the enemy struck Shliakhove and Shylova Balka with anti-aircraft gunships.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces Command is taking the necessary measures to deter the enemy's offensive and stabilize the situation," the General Staff emphasized.

  • 153 combat clashes occurred at the front over the last day. The Russians are conducting offensive operations in 11 key areas in an attempt to improve their tactical position. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively repelling enemy attacks.
