Russian Shahed drones over Poland were just a matter of time

Today, fewer than ten of them crossed the border. But if there is no response, or if it proves too weak for the Kremlin, what will stop Putin from doing it again?

A Russian invasion of Poland, Finland, or the Baltic states won’t look like the war in Ukraine. Generals always prepare for past wars, so Moscow won’t copy scenarios the West is ready for. Russia launches over a hundred Shaheds daily and is increasing production. Does anyone really believe the Kremlin will limit itself to Ukraine? New bases in Karelia, Kaliningrad, and Belarus — is that also “against Ukraine”?

One can endlessly hide behind “historical memory,” block Ukraine’s borders, or stir anti-Ukrainian sentiment. But Russia’s invasion of Poland can be stopped either today near Kramatorsk or tomorrow near Warsaw, if it’s still possible.

Today’s Shaheds over Poland are a reminder: Russia could arrive here much faster than those who see the threat in supporting Ukrainian children from low-income families think.
