Russian overnight strike marks first Kalibr missiles launch this month – Ukrainian Navy
On the night of July 21, a missile carrier submarine left Novorossiysk for the Black Sea, launched its missiles, and returned to base
Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said this on Espreso TV.
"Regarding the overnight attack, I can confirm that Kalibr missiles were launched from the Black Sea. Unfortunately, a submarine came out, launched its missiles, and returned to base. This is the first use of these missiles this month. The Russians have returned to their usual activity level," said Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.
He added that in the spring, Russia used missile carriers about once a month, while activity increased in June.
"The Russians don’t have many options for reloading their missile carriers — they won’t return to Crimea. After relocating to Novorossiysk, they first started reloading submarines there because the procedure is simpler — loading vertically is harder. Beyond loading, the missiles also need to be prepared. It’s a complex process that the Russians struggled to restore in Novorossiysk for a long time. But now, we can confirm it’s happening," Pletenchuk noted.
- On the night of July 21, Russia launched a massive attack against Ukraine using Shahed drones as well as hypersonic, cruise, and ballistic missiles. There are reports of destruction and fires in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The Kyiv city authorities report one person killed and two injured.
