Ukrainian forces partially oust Russian army from Vovchansk - General Staff
Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Dmytro Lazutkin said that some Russian infantry groups had entered Vovchansk, Kharkiv region. The General Staff report says that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have partially pushed the Russians out of the town
This was reported in the General Staff's update.
"The Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled the offensive of the Russian occupiers in the area of Vovchansk, partially drove the enemy forces out of the settlement, and defensive actions continue in the northern and northwestern suburbs. Data on enemy losses are being updated," the statement said.
Lazutkin also stressed that the main task now is to destroy the Russian forces and prevent them from gathering more forces and gaining a foothold in the city.
"Reserves have been pulled up. Indeed, very effective combat-ready units are now near Vovchansk and are holding this area. But yes, some infantry groups have indeed entered the city," added the Defense Ministry spokesman.
Lazutkin added that thanks to FPV drones, Ukrainian defenders are effectively working against the Russian army, in particular when the Russians bring infantry with equipment.
"That's why the combat work continues. It is clear that the situation is not easy, that tension remains. There is a tendency towards stabilization, but heavy fighting still continues. The enemy is trying to stretch the frontline and tie up our forces somewhere. Indeed, our task is to destroy the occupier. And this is being done in large numbers. The occupants are dying on the approaches to Vovchansk, in its suburbs and in the city itself," the spokesman stressed.
- On May 14, it was reported that two volunteers from Kyiv region disappeared in the city of Vovchansk, Kharkiv region, on May 10 during the evacuation. According to preliminary data, the police believe that they could have been shot by Russian soldiers.
