Russian forces push to expand foothold toward Borova in Kharkiv region
Kharkiv District Council deputy Bohdan Tkachuk says that the Russian army aims to capture Borova to gain control over a logistical junction
He made this statement on the Espreso TV channel.
“For several weeks, the enemy has been attempting to storm the positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces. The invaders are looking for weak spots in the defense. They are particularly eager to expand their foothold in the direction of Borova,” Tkachuk noted.
According to the deputy, Borova, located on the eastern bank of the Oskil River, has become a strategic point. Despite constant shelling, Ukrainian defenders are holding their positions. Currently, the river crossing has been destroyed, and two bridges have been demolished. The only remaining crossings are pipes and embankments, which are under continuous enemy fire. In this way, Russian forces are attempting to cut off logistical routes for Ukrainian defenders.
“Borova has turned into a small fortress. The enemy is trying to break through and capture it to take control of the logistical junction. This would open the way southward, toward Izium and Lyman. That’s why fierce battles are ongoing,” Tkachuk added.
- Since the start of January 16, there have been 89 combat engagements on the front line. The Russian troops have attempted to attack Ukrainian forces 31 times in the Pokrovsk direction.
