Russian FAB-3000 M-54 strikes Ukraine's New York village, raises alarm
The Russian Army's use of the FAB-3000 M-54, a three-ton guided aerial bomb, over New York village in the Toretsk settlement, marks an alarming escalation in Moscow's tactics
Journalist and military observer Oleksandr Kovalenko highlights the vulnerability of the southernmost settlement in the area.
The introduction of these powerful bombs, previously sighted only in Lyptsi and Vovchansk, signifies a dangerous new phase in the war. Su-34 aircraft, carrying these munitions, entered from the occupied Donetsk region's airspace, releasing them uncontested due to a lack of defensive measures.
This could signal the beginning of a devastating campaign against Toretsk, explained military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko. The Russian South group of forces appears emboldened and aims to clear the agglomeration swiftly.
As tensions escalate, calls for enhanced Ukrainian air defense capabilities and the acquisition of F-16 fighter jets gets louder. Additionally, discussions about permitting ATACMS strikes deep into Russian territory underscore Ukraine's urgent defense needs.
"As for me, this should have been very clear long ago," commented Kovalenko.
