Russian army tries to break through Ukrainian defense 21 times in Novopavlivka sector - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff reported this on March 18.

Russian attacks across Ukraine

In total, Russia launched 5 missile strikes, 55 airstrikes, and 60 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops’ positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Multi-storey buildings and private houses were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline situation 

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, the Russian army made three unsuccessful assaults on the Ukrainian troops’ positions near the town of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian troops repelled four enemy attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where the Russian army tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. Artillery and mortar shelling damaged more than 15 localities.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 7 enemy attacks in the areas of Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 7 enemy attacks in the areas of Berdychi, Orlivka, Tonenke, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. About 20 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Novopavlivka sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane, and Urozhaine, where the Russians, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense 21 times. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Orikhiv sector, Russia attacked the Ukrainian positions 7 times with the support of aviation near Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. About 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, the Russian army made three attacks on the Ukrainian positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River over the last day. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military positions 

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation struck 9 Russian military positions.

Missile troops destroyed 1 Russian air defense system.

• On March 17, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 11 enemy attacks in the Avdiivka sector. Russians tried to break through Ukrainian defenses in the Novopavlivka sector 25 times.
