The commander of the Tavria group of troops, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, reported the information.
"In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders inflicted huge losses on the enemy with their courage, resilience and heroism and destroyed a significant reserve of Russian invaders, which they planned to use in other parts of the frontline for offensive actions," he wrote.
The total losses of Russian troops in the Avdiivka direction from October 10, 2023, to February 17, 2024, amounted to
- personnel - 47,186;
- tanks - 364;
- artillery systems - 248;
- armoured fighting vehicles - 748;
- aircraft - 5.
"I thank each and every soldier for their resilience, courage and heroism! For each neutralised Russian occupier, for each tank and armoured vehicle that was burned!" Tarnavskyi added.
- To avoid encirclement and save lives, the Ukrainian Defence Forces command decided on February 17 to withdraw units from Avdiivka and move to defend more favourable positions.
- Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said that the decision to withdraw from Avdiivka was right and Ukrainian soldiers are in need of weapons and equipment.
