Russian army destroys oil refinery in Kharkiv region with drones
The Russian army launched around 20 drones at the oil refinery in the town of Merefa on the night of Tuesday, March 18.
The refinery belongs to the Kharkiv-based investment-industrial group AES Group.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the company’s press service and Suspilne, citing the head of the legal department of the refinery, Anastasia Cherednikova.
"This is the fourth attack on the enterprise since February 2022. Until yesterday, the plant operated at only 10% of its capacity, but after the last attack, it was completely destroyed," the company representatives said.
As a result of the Russian shelling, the plant's security guard was injured and hospitalized.
According to Anastasia Cherednikova, the fire was extinguished until the morning. As AES Group noted, the night attack was fatal for the business.
"Essentially, this marks the beginning of the bankruptcy procedure. The fourth strike on the company turned out to be deadly. We have to hope for international courts, but in the current geopolitical situation, the chances for justice are slim," the company added.
- Since the evening of March 17, the Russian army has been attacking Ukraine with drones. In Kyiv, drone debris fell on a school’s territory. In Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Cherkasy regions, drones damaged infrastructure objects.
