
Russia strikes Ukraine’s energy, gas infrastructure with drones, missiles
On the evening of Thursday, March 6, the Russian army launched drones against Ukraine. Overnight on March 7, Russia targeted energy and gas infrastructure with missiles. Injuries were reported in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions
Strikes on energy and gas infrastructure
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko reported that Russian missile and drone strikes targeted energy and gas infrastructure in various regions of Ukraine.
"Where possible, rescuers and energy workers are eliminating the consequences. All necessary measures are being taken to stabilize energy and gas supply," the minister wrote.
He added that the situation in the energy system may change.
Head of Naftogaz Group Roman Chumak said the company's facilities were attacked again — the 17th combined strike on Naftogaz's gas transportation infrastructure.
Production facilities supplying gas extraction were damaged, with no casualties reported.
"Efforts to eliminate the consequences and assess damage are ongoing. Naftogaz Group is taking all necessary measures to restore operations. We are doing and will do everything possible to keep the country supplied with gas. I thank all Naftogaz employees and all energy workers for their work in extremely difficult conditions," Chumak said.
Attack on Kharkiv
At 06:32 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported explosions in the city. Soon after, he informed that a strike had hit the Kyivskyi district of the city, with details being clarified.
It was later revealed that the attack targeted a civilian infrastructure facility. A woman was rescued from the rubble of the building and is currently being examined by doctors. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
"There is a fire at the impact site. A nearby apartment building was also damaged. All residents are being evacuated. All relevant services are on site," Terekhov reported.
By 06:57 a.m., the mayor informed that four people had been injured.
The head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, reported that the strike caused cars to catch fire. Medical personnel hospitalized a 65-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man.
At 07:30 a.m., it was reported that five people were injured in the morning strike on Kharkiv. Two of them were hospitalized, while the others received assistance on-site, clarified Syniehubov.
In addition to the critical infrastructure building and residential building, other objects were also affected, said Terekhov. Ten garages and five cars are on fire. Six people have been rescued.
Syniehubov stated that the strike was carried out with an Iskander missile. A critical infrastructure facility was damaged. Efforts to restore heating in 8 apartment buildings, affecting 670 subscribers, are ongoing. Fires broke out in 5 cars and 10 garages, as well as in an apartment in a building. More than 30 private sector homes were damaged. Seven people were injured, with two hospitalized.
The number of injured increased to 8 by 08:57 a.m.
Aftermath in Ternopil
Around 04:30 a.m., Suspilne correspondents reported hearing two explosions and seeing the glow of a fire.
Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal informed that all necessary services are working in the city.
"All necessary services are working. Do not publish photos and videos. More details later," Nadal wrote.
According to him, as a result of the overnight Russian attack on the Ternopil region, missiles hit a critical industrial facility. He warned that there may be gas supply restrictions.
"Air defense forces shot down an enemy missile. No casualties. Relevant services are dealing with the aftermath. Stay in shelters until the all-clear!" the mayor reported.
Nadal clarified that the overnight attack damaged a critical industrial facility in the Ternopil region. Oblgas disconnected non-residential consumers due to a drop in pressure in the networks. The mayor warned of potential restrictions on hot water and centralized heating supply if pressure is not restored.
In the Ternopil region, 2 out of 6 missiles hit the gas transport network, while 4 missiles were intercepted by air defense forces, stated Regional Military Administration Head Vyacheslav Nehoda, according to RBK-Ukraine.
"The fire has been extinguished. However, there is a risk of pressure drops in the network in many settlements. We are currently focusing on social infrastructure facilities. We also appeal to all residents: if possible, please minimize gas consumption, including for non-residential consumers," he reported.
Attack on Odesa region
The head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper, reported at 11:11 p.m. on the consequences of the Russian attack on the region.
According to him, three private residential houses in the suburbs of Odesa caught fire. Additionally, damage to energy infrastructure was reported.
"All relevant services are working on eliminating the consequences. Information regarding casualties is being clarified," he added.
The State Emergency Service showed the aftermath of the Russian attack on the Odesa region and clarified that, according to preliminary information, there are no casualties.
According to Kiper, in the Podilskyi district of Odesa region, a fire broke out in a private single-story residential house due to the debris from one of the cruise missiles. Four other houses were damaged. The State Emergency Service quickly extinguished the fire. All relevant services are on-site. No information regarding casualties has been reported.
Air defense operation in Kyiv region
At 11:25 p.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that they had spotted Russian drones. Air defense forces were active in the region.
Head of the Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, reported on the situation in the region following the nighttime attack. In the Kyiv region, the air raid alert lasted nearly 9 hours.
"Air defense forces were active in the region. Russian targets were shot down. There are no casualties among the population. No strikes on critical infrastructure facilities were allowed," Kalashnyk emphasized.
He mentioned that as a result of debris falling in the Obukhiv and Boryspil districts, a grass fire broke out. The fires have been extinguished. Additionally, a cargo truck was damaged in the Obukhiv district.
Attack on Poltava region
Explosions were heard in Poltava, reported Suspilne at 00:14.
According to the Poltava Regional Military Administration, in the Myrhorod district, debris from a Russian target fell on a private residential house. Two people, including a child, were injured. They have been hospitalized and are receiving the necessary treatment.
Additionally, two private residential houses and a household gas pipeline were damaged. The number of disconnected subscribers is being determined.
Attack on Ivano-Frankivsk region
At dawn, Russia attacked the Prykarpattia region, stated Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration, Svitlana Onyshchuk. According to her, Russia's targets were infrastructure facilities. During the air raid alert, explosions were heard in the region. Air defense forces were active.
Preliminary information indicates there are no casualties or destruction.
Shelling of Chernihiv region
Explosions were heard in the Pryluky area of the Chernihiv region, with one of the industrial facilities damaged, reported Head of the Regional Military Administration, Vyacheslav Chaus.
Russia fires nearly 20 missiles from Black Sea
A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, stated during a TV marathon that the Russian army launched nearly two dozen missiles from the Black Sea area last night.
He mentioned that by morning, three Russian ships remained in the sea, two of which were carrying missiles. This marks the third use of missile carriers since the beginning of the year.
"Once in January, once in February, and now the March use. It's hard to say they are using them actively," Pletenchuk noted.
He emphasized that the overall activity of Russian forces in the Black Sea this year is lower than last year. After the missile strike, three Russian ships remained in the area, two of which were equipped with missiles.
