Russia shifts tactics: from infantry assaults to probing Ukraine's defenses - military analyst
Vasyl Pekhno, a military analyst, noted that a month ago, the assault actions were mostly carried out by Russian infantry, but now a new wave involves the use of armored vehicles and motorcycle units
He shared the information on Espreso TV.
“As of April 13, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported approximately 160 combat clashes on the front, which is considered a medium-high level of attacks. The most notable, in my opinion, is that in recent days the Russians have decided to make attempts and use armored vehicles to break through our defenses at various points. In the Novopavlivka sector, where the 110th brigade is operating, Russian invaders used up to 20 units of armored vehicles in the attack, but before that, around 25 of their motorcyclists passed through to set the stage for the mechanized units. These attempts were unsuccessful. Similar motorcycle attacks, which are referred to as 'mechanized meat squads,' also took place in the Siversk sector,” commented Vasyl Pekhno.
In his opinion, there are several explanations for why Russian troops use motorcycles. The first is that all the settlements located on the front line are kill zones, areas that are hard to enter and even harder to escape from. To quickly reach these areas, Russian soldiers use motorcycles, enabling them to speed into settlements and immediately take cover, where they regroup before launching an assault. Since it is difficult to dislodge them once they’re entrenched, it is crucial to eliminate them before they reach their hiding spots.
"However, over the weekend, the Russians demonstrated not only motorcycle attacks but also fairly large-scale armored assaults. One such attack took place towards Kurdiumivka, located north of Toretsk, but was unsuccessful for the Russians. Additionally, in the Kupiansk sector, a massive Russian tank assault was halted, with tanks being used in a 'taxi mode.' One T-62 tank was converted into an 'airborne taxi' intended to transport Russians to the front lines, but they failed. Therefore, we can confirm that Russian forces have now entered a new wave of technical offensives on the front. A month ago, Russian infantry were probing our defense, and now we're seeing a new phase with the use of the remnants of their armored vehicles. However, the Russians are failing in their attempts," concluded the military analyst.
- On April 14, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that over the past day, 158 combat clashes took place on the front line. Russian troops attack Ukrainian positions in 12 key directions.
