Russia redeploys majority of forces to northern Lyman sector – Ukraine’s 63rd brigade
Russian forces have relocated most of their resources to the northern Lyman sector, searching for opportunities to break through Ukrainian defenses
This was reported by Rostyslav Yashchyshyn, spokesperson for the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during an Espreso TV broadcast.
"As of today, the situation in the 63rd Brigade’s area of responsibility is relatively stable, as no enemy assault operations are taking place on our section. There are likely two reasons for this. First, the enemy has moved most of its resources north of the Lyman sector, looking for other ways to breach our defensive lines. Second, throughout 2024, Russian forces failed to achieve any success on this front, suffering around 7,000 killed and wounded and losing a vast amount of equipment. As a result, they decided to seek 'better luck' elsewhere," Yashchyshyn explained.
He noted that the 63rd Brigade is providing combat support to neighboring Ukrainian units holding defensive positions further north. Ukrainian artillery and drone operators continue targeting enemy personnel.
"Despite the lack of active assaults, Russian forces are still shelling our positions, using drones for airstrikes, FPV drones, and artillery. There is no quiet life for our defenders here – everyone is working, and operations continue around the clock," Yashchyshyn added.
- On February 5, Ukraine’s General Staff reported 90 combat clashes along the front, with the fiercest fighting occurring in the Pokrovsk sector. In the Lyman direction, Russian troops attacked 11 times, attempting to advance near Novolubivka, Kopanky, Zelenyi Hai, Hrekivka, Novoyehorivka, Yampilivka, Kolodiazi, and Torske.
