Military base for training Russia's new assault forces stretches from Mariupol to Berdiansk
Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of Occupation, commented on the movement and reserve components of Russian forces around the front, particularly in the Donetsk region
He discussed this on Espreso TV.
“From Mariupol to Berdiansk, there is effectively a military base for training new Russian assault units. The training ground is fully operational. Fortunately, the use of barrel artillery is not very active, which indicates a limited supply of shells for the Russians. Whenever new supplies arrive, we immediately observe a surge in the use of this weaponry,” he noted.
The movement of Russian manpower has significantly slowed across all directions, confirming the lack of fresh recruitment. All available Russian reserves have already been moved closer to the front line, Andriushchenko stated.
“We observe the troop redeployment from the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia directions, which are based in Crimea, to the northern part of the Donetsk region, around Volnovakha, Kurakhove, and further towards Pokrovsk.
The Russians are now in a phase where their previous mobilization and recruitment wave has ended. They are preparing their units for the next wave. I believe we will see more active movement next week,” he added.
Andriushchenko also reported that within a month, the Russians might intensify their offensives in the Zaporizhzhia direction along the front line.
“The redeployment of additional Russian reserves suggests they are trying to maintain their current tempo. Pokrovsk is their next objective, which they aim to achieve at any cost. Freed-up units are increasing their activity to support ongoing offensive actions. However, let us not forget about their reserves in the Zaporizhzhia direction, which they have been stockpiling. They are not planning to abandon an attack on Zaporizhzhia,” he concluded.
- On January 19, there were 189 combat engagements along the Russian-Ukrainian front. In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian forces halted 89 assaults.
