
Russia reports drone attack: Lipetsk plant, Tula chemical facility allegedly targeted
Overnight on Saturday, May 24, Russia reported a massive drone attack, with online sources claiming the Energiya plant in Yelets and the Azot chemical plant in Tula were targeted
The Russian Defense Ministry reports.
They say that in total, the air defense allegedly shot down 94 Ukrainian drones that night, including 64 over Belgorod region, 24 drones over Bryansk region, two over Kursk and Lipetsk regions, and one over Voronezh and Tula regions.
At 3:45 a.m., Lipetsk Region Governor Igor Artamonov reported the threat of a drone attack on the regional center. At 5:07 a.m., Artamonov reported the possibility of a drone attack on Yelets and six districts of the region.
Around 6:20 p.m., the governor wrote that the region had allegedly suffered a massive UAV attack and announced the operation of air defense in Lipetsk and Yelets, where the Energiya plant, which had been hit the day before, is located.
Eyewitnesses online reported helicopters flying over the city. According to residents, at least six explosions were heard.
In addition, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, said that the Azot chemical plant in the Tula region of the Russian Federation was hit.
According to him, some of the chemicals produced at this enterprise can be used for military purposes.
In particular, ammonium nitrate is used as a component for the production of explosives, methanol can serve as a raw material for the production of fuels, including components for rocket fuel, and argon is an inert gas used in metallurgy, in particular for welding and heat treatment of metals that can be used in the defense industry.
