
Russia remains top threat to EU — Vilnius summit leaders
Russia remains the most significant threat to Euro-Atlantic security. In turn, NATO must adapt its approach and be prepared for all possible contingencies
This is stated in the declaration of the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries and the Northern European countries, according to Radio Svoboda.
"Russia remains the most significant, long-term, and direct threat to euro-atlantic security, and NATO must further adapt its approach to Russia. The Alliance must be ready for all possible unforeseen circumstances," the European leaders stated.
They also strongly condemned Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and confirmed unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
Separately, the summit participants confirmed that Ukraine’s security is an integral part of euro-atlantic regional security.
The statement also emphasized that the Bucharest Nine and Northern European countries insist on NATO’s firm decisions and commitments regarding Ukraine’s irreversible path to full euro-atlantic integration, including NATO membership.
