Russia prioritizes attacks on Kharkiv, Donetsk regions - ISW
Russia's army attacks positions in southern and eastern Ukraine and advances in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian defenders are holding the line in the Kharkiv direction
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported the information.
On June 5, Russian troops continued their offensive in the Lyptsi direction, but there were no confirmed changes in the frontline. Ukraine's General Staff reported that on June 4 and 5, Ukrainian troops repelled assaults near Lyptsi.
At the same time, on June 5, fighting continued near and within Vovchansk, but there were no confirmed changes in the frontline. Russian propagandists claimed that on June 5, Ukrainian forces intensified counterattacks in and around Vovchansk, and the head of the Vovchansk City Military Administration, Tamaz Gambarashvili, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had recently recaptured unspecified positions in the city.
In addition, Russian troops recently advanced southeast of Kupyansk as Russian offensives continued along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on June 5. Geolocated footage released on June 5 shows Russian forces making progress near Ivanivka and southwest of Novoselivske.
Fighting also continued northeast of Kupyansk near Synkivka; southeast of Kupyansk near Stepova Novoselivka and Stelmakhivka; southwest of Svatove near Druzheliubivka, Novoiehorivka, Cherneshchyna; northwest of Kreminna near Nevske; southwest of Kreminna near Yampil; and south of Kreminna in the area of Serebryanka forestry.
According to analysts, Russian troops have recently confirmed advances north and southeast of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. Geolocated footage published on June 4 shows that the Russians have advanced along Lisova Street in eastern Kalynivka. A Russian military blogger claimed that Russian troops had advanced 300 meters northeast of Kalynivka, and another reported Russian advances in and around Kalynivka, which is generally consistent with the available geolocation records.
At the same time, Russia is making progress near Avdiivka. Geolocated footage released on June 5 shows that Russian troops have advanced across the C051801 Umanske-Netailove road north of Netailove. Russian military bloggers have also claimed that the invading troops have advanced east and north of Novooleksandrivka, but ISW has not yet observed visual evidence of Russian advances in the area.
