Russia loses aircraft, 40 artillery systems, and more than 1,000 soldiers in one day in Ukraine – General Staff

During the past day, 82 combat clashes took place at the front. Russian forces mostly attacked the Marinka, Avdiivka, and Bakhmut directions. Ukrainian Defense Forces eliminated 1,080 Russian soldiers

The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to February 18, 2024, amounted to:

  • personnel – about 402,430 (+1,080)

  • artillery systems – 9,709 (+40)

82 combat clashes take place during the day: Russians try to break through Ukraine’s defense in the Marinka direction

According to the General Staff, near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the operational situation has not changed.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops did not conduct any offensives.

In the Lyman direction, Ukraine's soldiers repulsed 12 attacks near Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in the Donetsk region, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces rebuffed 14 Russian attacks near Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukraine's defenders repelled 14 attacks near Lastochkyne, Avdiivka.

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back the Russian army near Heorhiivka, Pobyeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, the invading Russian troops, supported by aviation, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops 23 times.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 2 attacks near Prechystivka and Staromayorske.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russian occupying forces unsuccessfully tried to attack the positions of Ukrainian troops west of Robotyne and Verbove 13 times.

In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces hold their positions and repel the attacks of the occupying forces. Despite significant losses, Russia keeps trying to drive Ukraine's units out of their positions. Over the past day, they made 2 unsuccessful assaults.

Russian troops launch nighttime attacks on Ukraine; Ukrainian Armed Forces respond with airstrikes on 14 Russian personnel concentrations

Russia carried out a total of 13 missile and 104 air strikes, launching 169 MLRS attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions and civilian areas. Tragically, civilian casualties occurred due to Russian terrorist attacks, resulting in the destruction and damage of high-rise buildings, private structures, and critical infrastructure.

Overnight, Russian troops once again assaulted Ukraine using Shahed-136/131 UAVs. Further details about this attack are under investigation.

Russian air strikes targeted 26 settlements across Ukraine. 

Artillery fire targeted over 100 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Simultaneously, on the same day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces' aviation conducted air strikes on 14 Russian personnel concentrations and 3 anti-aircraft missile systems.

Ukrainian missile force units targeted 1 Russian personnel concentration, 2 control points, 4 artillery units, 4 ammunition depots, and 1 radio-electronic warfare station.

  • On the evening of Saturday, February 17, Russian terrorists launched Shahed drones and missiles in an attack on Ukraine.
