Russia loses 9 tanks, 12 artillery systems, and 740 soldiers in one day – General Staff

During the past 24 hours, 79 combat clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces have taken place at the front. Ukraine's Defense forces repelled 73 attacks in 8 directions and eliminated 740 soldiers

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs about this.

Total Russia’s combat losses from February 24, 2022, to January 28, 2024, are estimated to be:

  • artillery systems – 9097 (+12)

  • UAVs of the operational-tactical level – 7041 (+4) 
  • cruise missiles – 1,845 (+0) 
  • warships/boats ‒ 23 (+0)
  • submarines – 1 (+0)
  • vehicles and fuel tanks – 12,103 (+21) 
  • special equipment ‒ 1436 (+3) 

Defense forces repel more than 70 Russian attacks, most of them in the Avdiivka direction

According to Ukraine's General Staff, the operational situation has not changed in the area of the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus.

In the northeastern border area, the Russian army maintains a military presence, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 Russian attacks near Synkivka, Tabaivka, Kharkiv region, and Stelmakhivka, Luhansk region.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 11 attacks near 4 areas in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 

In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repulsed 7 Russian attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, in the area of responsibility of the Tavria operational-strategic group, the Ukrainian army continues to hold back the Russian enemy, who keeps trying to surround Avdiivka. Ukraine's soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the Russian militants. Thus, over the past day, the Defense Forces repelled 11 attacks near Stepove, Avdiivka, and another 17 attacks near 3 more localities in the Donetsk region.

In the Marinka direction, Ukraine's defense forces continued to hold back the Russian enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where they repelled 14 attacks.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Ukraine’s forces repelled 3 attacks near Zolota Nyva and Staromayorske in the Donetsk region.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian troops repulsed a hostile attack west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, Ukraine's defense forces continue to expand their foothold. Despite significant losses, the Russian troops keep trying to drive Ukrainian units out of their positions. Over the past day, they made 2 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of Ukrainian troops.

Our troops are inflicting losses in manpower and equipment, exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.

Russian artillery targets over 100 Ukrainian areas; Armed Forces hit Russian ammo depots

Russia conducted a total of 3 missile and 8 air strikes, employing Shahed-136/131 attack drones and unleashing 82 MLRS strikes on our troop positions and civilian areas. Regrettably, casualties occurred among the civilian population due to these terrorist attacks, causing destruction and damage to residential and civil infrastructure.

Artillery fire from the Russians hit more than 100 settlements across Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Throughout the day, our defense forces' aviation targeted four areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment.

Missile units successfully struck one artillery piece and two enemy ammunition depots.

  • On the night of January 28, Russian invaders launched eight attack drones and ballistic missiles into Ukrainian territory. Our Air Force units successfully neutralized four Shahed drones.
