Russia launches major armored assaults near Velyka Novosilka, southern Donetsk region
Ivan Sekach, a spokesman for the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after General Marko Bezruchko, noted that the Russian army almost does not fire from armored vehicles but uses them as infantry transport
He stated this on the air of Espreso.
"After the enemy captured Velyka Novosilka, there was relative silence for about two weeks. The enemy conducted rotations, concentrated forces, and prepared for new assaults. Just four days ago, large-scale assaults began toward Velyka Novosilka and Novyi Komar. And two days ago, the occupiers used numerous armored columns. This had not happened for a long time—three columns advanced simultaneously. However, the enemy’s equipment failed its task; none of the columns reached their designated objective," said the 110th brigade spokesman.
According to him, the large number of infantry gives the enemy an advantage and allows them to advance, albeit over small distances, but movement is happening.
"During fog and snow, our aerial reconnaissance has difficulty operating, but we knew days in advance when and from where the enemy would advance. Our FPV operators knew where to aim, and the artillery was guided accordingly. The enemy tries to use armored vehicles when they need to cover distances in open fields. In towns, they primarily use infantry while barely deploying their vehicles. The practice of recent months shows that a large number of FPVs, proper mining, and the use of Javelins render enemy armor almost ineffective. It should be noted that they do not fire from their vehicles but use them solely as infantry transport," summarized Ivan Sekach.
- On January 27, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russia’s Ministry of Defense is actively spreading information about the capture of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region, likely as part of a large-scale information strategy aimed at reducing Western support for Ukraine.
- On February 17, Serhiy Zgurets, director of the Defense Express media and consulting company, noted that the enemy has gone into a frenzy, launching active attacks across the entire front line using armored vehicles.
