Russia launches 2,277 deadly Shahed drones to attack Ukraine this year. How many were destroyed?
Since 1 January 2024, Russia has launched 2,277 Shahed-type attack drones on the territory of Ukraine, and air defence forces have destroyed about 86% of Russian drones
This was announced by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykola Oleshchuk.
He stressed that the Ukrainian air defence forces have managed to destroy 1953 enemy Shaheds out of a total of 2277 since the beginning of this year. This is about 86%.
"These results were achieved due to the increased combat capabilities of the mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. These are thousands of servicemen who go to firing positions almost every night and shoot down enemy UAVs with all the weapons they have," Oleshchuk said.
According to him, the creation of mobile fire groups was a necessary step, as since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, Russia has been increasing its attacks with a large number of air attack weapons, including attack drones. Oleshchuk stressed that more than 80% of the occupiers' drones were shot down by the mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces.
At the same time, the commander mentioned the equipment of the mobile fire groups.
"Today, the small arms, anti-aircraft guns, man-portable air defence systems in service with the mobile firing groups have been modified and equipped with additional equipment capable of ensuring a good result of combat work. These include night vision devices, thermal imagers, optics, laser pointers, searchlights, electronic warfare equipment, software, and off-road vehicles," he wrote.
- On June 21, the Ukrainian Navy, in cooperation with the SSU, struck the military training ground of the 726th Air Defence Training Centre in Krasnodar Krai. The strike destroyed 120 UAVs and some personnel.
