Russia intensifies attacks near Sumy border settlements — Ukraine’s Border Guard Service
Recently, Russian forces have been trying to expand the movement zone of their small assault groups in the Sumy region, shelling the areas near Veselivka and Volodymyrivka
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, shared the information on Espreso TV.
“Unfortunately, the Russians continue to send their small assault groups into Ukrainian territory, specifically within the boundaries of the Khotin and Yunakivka communities. We see that Russian forces are trying to expand the combat zones along the border line in these communities by deploying their infantry groups there. The occupiers do not care about their losses, as the Russian groups entering our territory are being destroyed — this amounts to dozens of Russian soldiers every day. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back these advances and preventing Russian troops from rapidly shifting the fighting onto our land,” commented the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to him, Russian infantry groups use motorcycles or quad bikes to advance as quickly as possible and secure deeper positions, then gather forces to launch further attacks. These infantry group actions are preceded by numerous shellings of Ukrainian troops’ positions. However, Russian troops have not been able to achieve significant results.
“In the Sumy region, Russian most active actions are occurring in the direction of Basivka and Zhuravka. The Russians are trying to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory along these areas. Recently, Russian invaders have been attempting to expand the movement corridors for their small assault groups, conducting shelling toward the settlements of Veselivka and Volodymyrivka. The occupiers are constantly amassing forces that try to cross our border. The destruction of Russian infantry groups takes place both on Ukrainian territory and near our border approaches. Regarding the settlement of Oleksandriia in the Myropillia district, I cannot say that Russian troops have significantly shown activity there, as the main Russian infantry activity is happening within the Yunakivka and Khotin communities in the direction of Basivka and Zhuravka,” Demchenko summarized.
- As of May 30, according to DeepState, Russia's advance in Bilovody and Loknya in the Sumy region is not the end, and Russian activity is intensifying every day. Constant pressure from the infantry is taking its toll, and previous successes are motivating the Russians to build on them.
- On May 31, a mandatory evacuation of local residents was announced due to Russian shelling in 11 more settlements of the Sumy district.
