Russia in no condition to open new battlefronts - U.S. journalist Ignatius
For now, the Russian military is overwhelmed by the challenges it is already facing. It is in no condition to launch additional wars on other fronts
American journalist David Ignatius said this in an interview on Espreso TV.
“Putin appears to continue holding grand ambitions about redrawing the map of Europe in Russia's favor. However, it is worth remembering that, three years into this war, Russia has still not succeeded in capturing Donetsk region,” he said.
In his view, this clearly shows that despite all its military might, Russia has limitations.
“Russian claims about moving next against the Baltic states, or toward Finland, Sweden, or Moldova, seem premature. For now, the Russian military is overwhelmed by the challenges it is already facing. It is in no condition to launch additional wars on other fronts. That is my assessment.
It is crucial that Ukraine’s allies find every possible way to support the country during this challenging period. The summer of 2026 is likely to be difficult, just as the past winter was,” Ignatius added.
He said he has no doubt that Russia will try to ramp up pressure and once again test the strength of Ukraine’s defensive lines.
