Russia burns significant resources in Ukraine war: Ukrainian colonel on eastern direction

Vladyslav Selezniov, a military expert and former spokesman for Ukraine's General Staff, pointed out that Russia has enough resources to target beyond Kurakhove along other sections of the frontline

He shared the information on Espreso TV.

"At present, the enemy (Russian troops - ed.) is actively advancing on 7 frontline areas. As soon as the enemy takes control of the territory near Kurakhove, it will redeploy forces and equipment, strengthening assault units to move further towards the Pokrovsk agglomeration," suggested Selezniov.

According to the military expert, a similar scenario unfolded after the occupation of Vuhledar. Following a week-long lull, Russian forces resumed their offensive, causing significant challenges for Ukrainian forces in the area of the Sukhi Yaly River, south of Kurakhove.

"Therefore, we should not have any illusions. The enemy has enough resources not only to attack near Kurakhove, threatening the Pokrovsk agglomeration, but also to create serious problems for our defenders south of Chasv Yar. This means that Ukrainian defenders of Toretsk are also at risk," emphasised Selezniov.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces colonel also noted that Russian troops have the potential to create significant challenges for Ukrainian defenders in the Kupyansk sector and, in the future, in the Lyman sector.

"It seems that the enemy will move downstream of the Oskil River to join the Russian army grouping operating in the direction of Lyman. This will allow it to form a bridgehead that will pose a threat to the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration," Selezniov said.

The military expert summed up that the situation at the front remains difficult, largely because Russia has significant resources and "is ready to burn in the heat of war" to gain territorial gains.

  • Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army lost another 1,610 soldiers on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Russia's total losses reached 724,000 soldiers.
  • On November 18, 143 combat clashes were recorded on the frontline between the two armies. In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 22 Russian assaults.
