Russian army attempts to storm Ukrainian positions 42 times - General Staff

Russian attacks across Ukraine

During the day, Russia launched 6 missile strikes with S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles at the civilian infrastructure of Myrnohrad, Donetsk region, and Muzykivka, Kherson region. It also launched 64 airstrikes and 45 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems at the Ukrainian troops' positions and localities. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Residential buildings, schools and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Frontline situation

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 40 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

In the Kupyansk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 attacks near Synkivka and east of Pishchane in the Kharkiv region, where the Russian army tried to break through the Ukrainian defence to no avail. Russia launched airstrikes near Petropavlivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Lyman sector, Ukrainian troops repelled four attacks in the areas of Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region and Terny in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Bakhmut sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled three attacks near Ivanivske in the Donetsk region, where the Russian troops tried to improve their tactical position without success. In the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 8 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka and another 5 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. More than 15 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Mariupol sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold back the Russian army in the areas of Heorhiivka, Pobieda and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Over 5 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Shakhtarsk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack near Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled an attack north of Pryiutne in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Kherson sector, more than 5 localities were subjected to Russian attacks.

Russia doesn't abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units from their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, 7 unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of Ukrainian troops were made during the day.

Ukrainian strikes against Russian military targets

During the day, Ukrainian Defence Forces aviation struck 14 areas where Russian personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated.

Missile troops struck 2 air defence systems, 4 artillery systems, and Russian electronic warfare station.

• Over the past day, January 28, 74 combat engagements took place at the frontline. Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 26 attacks in the Avdiivka sector and neutralised 1,070 Russian soldiers.
