Russia's overnight missile and drone attack kills two in Kyiv, multiple injured

Kyiv under attack: Casualty count rises throughout the day

As of 3:42 p.m., 24 people were reported injured following a Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv. According to Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko, a man had just sought medical assistance, raising the total number of casualties. A few minutes earlier, he had reported 23 injured.

At 1:50 p.m., the injury count stood at 22.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported that emergency and rescue operations are ongoing at the strike sites. More than 350 rescue personnel, including bomb disposal units, dog handlers, climbers, and over 80 units of equipment, are working on site — including heavy engineering machinery to dismantle damaged structures.

Earlier, as of 12:37 p.m., 19 people had been confirmed injured. Among those who sought medical attention was a teenage girl born in 2008.

Strikes on Kyiv

Starting at 2:00 a.m., official reports of explosions in Kyiv began to appear.

According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko:

  • There is a fire on the top floor of a residential building in Shevchenkivskyi district.
  • There is another call in Darnytskyi district. It is also a fire in an apartment building.
  • Emergency services are on their way. Another address in the Shevchenkivskyi district is on fire.
  • In the Shevchenkivskyi district, there is a preliminary fire in another residential building.
  • A truck is on fire in Holosiivskyi district.
  • In Podilskyi, debris fell.
  • Two victims were hospitalized in Solomianskyi district.

As of 4:30 a.m., 8 people were injured in Kyiv as a result of the attack - Kyiv City Military Administration.

At 5:11 a.m., the air raid alert was canceled in Kyiv. There are 12 victims in the capital as of this time.

Here is an update on the situation by district:

Shevchenkivskyi district

Rescuers are working in a residential building where a fire broke out on the top floor as a result of falling debris. Debris has fallen at several other addresses. There is also a fire at one of the addresses. All services are at the scene.

Darnytskyi district.

A fire broke out in garages and a gas station as a result of the UAV debris falling. The debris also fell in the yard of a residential building.

Solomianskyi district

Debris fell and caused a fire on the roof of a non-residential building. Debris also fell at another address.

Holosiivskyi district

A truck caught fire as a result of falling UAV debris.

Podilskyi district

UAV debris fell on the territory of a non-residential building.

In Shevchenkivskyi district, the establishment of humanitarian aid headquarters to help eliminate the consequences of the emergency was announced.

Around 6 a.m., according to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Tymur Tkachenko, the number of injured in Kyiv increased to 13. He later added that two people were reported dead.

At 7:04, Klitschko wrote that the number of people injured in the capital had increased to 14. Nine of them were hospitalized, the rest were treated on the spot or on an outpatient basis.

Around 7 a.m., according to Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko, the fire and rescue service continued to work on the roof of the damaged building.

Also in the morning, it became known that the outpatient clinic of the Primary Health Care Center No. 1 in Podil district was almost completely destroyed as a result of a Russian attack.

At 7:50 a.m., Klitschko reported that the number of injured had risen to 16, 10 of whom were hospitalized, while the rest were treated on the spot or on an outpatient basis.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that two women were killed in the Podil district - a 68-year-old resident of the capital and a 22-year-old police corporal, a member of the subway police.

"More than a dozen people were injured. And, unfortunately, the number of victims will grow. People continue to seek medical assistance. The police are going door-to-door in the affected buildings to check if anyone is left without help," Klymenko wrote.

According to him, about 400 rescuers and 90 units of fire and rescue, engineering and robotic equipment of the State Emergency Service are involved in the debris removal and elimination of the shelling consequences. Groups of mountaineers and pyrotechnics are working.

An Espreso correspondent also reported damage to the Kvadrat shopping center.

Strikes on Kyiv region

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said that a massive night attack on the region lasted almost 10 hours.

A 51 year old was wounded in Obukhiv district. He was hospitalized in a local hospital.

The consequences of the Russian attack are recorded in 4 districts of the region:

- In Brovary district, private houses and outbuildings were damaged. Windows and doors were smashed and facades were cut. Another private house caught fire as a result of a Russian attack. The fire was extinguished. Two cars were damaged. The number of damaged houses is being clarified.

- a fire in a garage was extinguished in Vyshgorod district.

- In Boryspil and Obukhiv districts, damaged private houses were also found.
