Russian missile, drone attacks kill two in Kyiv, injure four in Zaporizhzhia

On the evening of May 6, Russia launched drones and ballistic missiles at Ukraine. In Zaporizhzhia, an infrastructure facility was hit, injuring at least four people. In Kyiv, debris damaged residential buildings and set warehouses on fire, leaving dead and injured, including children

Attack on Kyiv

A ballistic missile attack:

At 1:01 a.m., after the threat was announced, the Ukrainian air force recorded a target on Kyiv.

At 1:06 a.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko informed about the explosions in Kyiv. 

“Air defense forces are working. There is a ballistic missile threat. Stay in shelters!” he emphasized.

As a result of the falling debris, a fire broke out in the Solomianskyi district, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

“We have called medics to the Solomianskyi district. There is missile debris falling there. The crew is on its way,” Klitschko added.

Drone attack:

At 4:16 a.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration spotted Russian UAVs in the region and informed the air defense forces.

The Air Force informed that at 4:27 a.m. several Shaheds were flying over the capital. 

Tkachenko said that in Dniprovskyi district, UAV fragments fell on a residential building: 5 people were injured. The upper two floors of a residential building were partially destroyed in Dniprovskyi district. Emergency services are on the way. 

Debris also fell in Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. In Sviatoshynskyi, it hit a 10-story residential building.

In Sviatoshynskyi, apartments on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors are burning. In the Solomianskyi district, there was a fire in an open area.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out as a result of debris falling on a residential building and a supermarket.

According to Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of the Kyiv Military District Administration, a fire broke out between the second and third floors of a ten-story residential building in Bucha district as a result of a Russian drone attack. The building has not yet been put into operation. More than 10 cars were damaged. There was no information about victims. All services are working at the scene.

As of 5:55 a.m., Klitschko said that 6 residents of the capital were injured as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv. Four of them are children. Three of the injured were hospitalized and three were treated on the spot.

In 20 minutes, the mayor of Kyiv updated the data on the victims - their number increased to 7. Three injured residents were hospitalized. Four were treated on the spot.

According to the State Emergency Service, in the Shevchenkivskyi district, the fall of the UAV debris on a 5-story residential building caused a fire in apartments on the 3rd and 5th floors. The bodies of 2 people were found during the firefighting. 

At 6:43 a.m., sounds of explosions were heard in Kyiv, Espreso reports. The Kyiv City Military Administration warned of active air defense.

According to Klitschko, as of 7 a.m., the number of injured increased to 8. 

“Another woman was hospitalized. Before that, three children were hospitalized. Thus, so far, four victims have been hospitalized. Four of them were treated on the spot,” he wrote.

In total, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration, two people have been confirmed dead and six injured, including four children. Information about two more victims is currently being checked. In addition, due to the aftermath of the Russian attack, there may be changes in the organization of traffic. 

Attack on Zaporizhzhia

On May 6, at 9:29 p.m., the head of the Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov announced the operation of air defense, and at 10:07 p.m., explosions were heard in Zaporizhzhia.

Buildings in the city were damaged as a result of the Russian attack.

“Preliminary, there are people under the rubble. Emergency services are on their way to the hit sites,” Fedorov wrote, adding that a fire broke out in one area of Zaporizhzhia.

“According to preliminary reports, the Russians attacked an infrastructure facility. Information about the victims is being clarified,” the head of the Regional Military Administration said at 10:34 p.m.

As of 10:52 p.m., the occupiers have struck at least 13 times in Zaporizhzhia: there are damages in different districts, and several fires have occurred.

Preliminary, two people are under the rubble. A private house was also destroyed.

At 11:24 p.m., Fedorov reported that three people were injured as a result of the strike. Another person is under the rubble of the destroyed house. The search and rescue operation is underway.

Later, rescuers pulled another man out of the rubble, and he is receiving emergency medical care. The number of victims increased to 4.

The State Emergency Service clarified that the attack destroyed a private residential building and damaged 11 others. 10 cars and infrastructure facilities were also damaged. As of 06:00, according to rescuers, the number of victims is being clarified.
