Russia attacks in 10 directions: 78 combat engagements occur on frontline on August 22

This is stated in the report of Ukraine's General Staff as of 16:00.

The border areas of Sumy region continue to suffer from enemy artillery shelling. In addition, Russia is bombing both Ukrainian and Russian territory with guided aerial bombs — 20 air strikes involving 38 bombs have been recorded so far.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv sector, Russian forces stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops near Vovchansk twice. The battle is currently ongoing. Russian enemy also launched unguided aircraft missiles from a Ka-52 helicopter near Kozacha Lopan.

In the Kupyansk sector, Russian enemy attacked Ukrainian positions 7 times. Ukrainian defense forces repelled enemy attacks near Synkivka, Hlushkivka, Stelmakhivka and in the direction of Lozova. The area around Kruhlyakivka came under attack from two Russian aerial bombs.

In the Lyman sector, Russian troops attacked in the areas of Novosadove, Hrekivka, Terny, Nevske, Torske and Dibrova. Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian troops have repelled seven enemy attacks in this area. Another battle is ongoing near Makiivka. The situation is under control, according to the General Staff.

In the Siverskyi sector, Russia attacked near Bilohorivka, Vyimka and Spirne - Russia tried to break through the Ukrainian defenses five times without success.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Russian invaders carried out six assault operations near Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar. They attacked the latter with 22 unguided aerial missiles.

Four hostile attacks took place in the Toretsk sector so far. Today, Russian enemy attacked in the areas of New York and Nelipivka. Ukrainian defenders are repelling the Russian troops - all combat engagements have been completed. The aggressor's aviation struck Druzhba twice with unguided aerial missiles, and terrorists dropped two guided aerial bombs near Pleshchiyivka.

The Pokrovsk sector saw the most firefights. Since the beginning of the day, Russia has made 33 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Zelene Pole, Mykhailivka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Mykolaivka, Ptychke, Kamyshivka, Myroliubivka and Novotroitske. Almost half of all the fighting took place near Mykolaivka and Novohrodivka. Ukrainian defense forces have already repelled 28 enemy attacks in the area.

In the Kurakhove sector, the invaders attacked Ukrainian units 10 times, trying to advance near Kostiantynivka and Karlivka. The fighting is currently ongoing.

In the Vremivka sector, the invaders attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops three times. The General Staff says the Russian forces are trying to advance towards Vuhledar and from Volodymyrivka.

In the Orikhiv sector, Novodanylivka was attacked with glide bombs and Novoandriivka, Novodarivka and Pyatikhatky with unguided aerial missiles.

In the Prydniprovskyi sector, Russian enemy did not conduct any assault operations.

• On the night of August 22, the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the Special Operations Forces, targeted Russia’s military airfield Marynivka in Volgograd region. The warehouses with bombs and fuel were damaged.
