Resource factor may play decisive role in battle for Toretsk - military expert

“An attempted flanking attack on Toretsk proved to be futile for the Russian forces. The Russians spent a lot of resources trying to surround the Ukrainian garrison in Toretsk. But nothing came of it. Therefore, they returned to the old tactics that were developed during the First and Second Chechen Wars. In particular, the first step was the active use of guided bombs and artillery to guarantee the destruction of any building in the city. So, Ukrainian troops are facing challenges again,” explained Selezniov.

According to the expert, the Russians may continue to deploy the maximum amount of equipment and personnel to the Toretsk direction.

“On the one hand, I understand that modern military science says that fighting in urban areas is one of the most difficult. In these realities, the advancing army suffers losses. However, we can now say that the Russians are making progress in Toretsk. Under such conditions, the enemy is ready to suffer heavy losses and gain ground in this area of the front. That is why the factor of resources will play an almost decisive role in the battles for Toretsk. If Russian forces continue to ignore losses and throw all their forces and resources at this area, they will continue to advance,” he added.

• Invading Russian forces have made some progress in Toretsk, Donetsk region, gaining a foothold on two streets in the city center.
• Since the beginning of October 11, 78 combat clashes have taken place at the front. The Russian forces are most active in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors.
