He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"I believe this is a theatrical performance by Putin. In reality, if the Kremlin truly wanted a ceasefire, they would have accepted the United States' offer for a 30-day ceasefire to continue negotiations for a peace agreement," Czolij noted.
According to him, the three-day "truce" is manipulation and disinformation, through which the Kremlin tries to create the impression that it is ready to heed the U.S. calls for a ceasefire.
"In reality, the Kremlin has no genuine intention. They have already violated their own declarations, as attacks on Ukrainian territory have already occurred," Czolij emphasized.
- On April 28, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced a "truce" during the days marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. In response, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded that Ukraine is ready to support a "lasting, durable, and full" ceasefire for at least 30 days.
- On May 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Vladimir Putin’s proposal for a three-day truce from May 7 to 9 a theatrical performance, insisting instead on a 30-day ceasefire in line with the strategy proposed by the United States.
- On May 7, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's proposal to cease strikes for at least 30 days remains in effect.
- On Thursday, May 8, Russia announced the beginning of a so-called ceasefire on the day of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
