Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is “ready for a ceasefire in Ukraine,” but “some issues” need to be resolved

He was quoted by the TASS propaganda agency.

“Putin supports the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine, but a number of issues have to be resolved, and so far they are up in the air,” Peskov said.

He also emphasized that the Russian military supposedly targeted only "military objects" and did not strike social facilities. The Russian official dismissed reports regarding Russian strikes on a playground in Kryvyi Rih, which resulted in the deaths of 20 civilians, including 9 children.

“Russia must ensure its interests when resolving the situation in Ukraine,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.

At the same time, Peskov noted that the specific dates of the next contacts between Russia and the United States have not yet been determined.

Russia's stance on a ceasefire in Ukraine

On March 25, another round of talks between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Riyadh. The parties agreed to a 30-day partial truce. Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea. Russia also has to stop attacking energy facilities.

However, Russia has repeatedly violated the terms of the 30-day partial truce. For example, on April 1, Russian troops attacked a power facility in Kherson, again violating the agreements with the United States.

On April 1, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia did not share U.S. President Donald Trump's approach to ending the war in Ukraine.

The next day, Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence that pressure on Russia would eventually force it to cease fire.

The President of Ukraine later said that the United States was persuading Russia to agree to an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, which would allow for a dialogue to begin. According to him, Russia is seeking to retain the ability to strike Ukraine from the Black Sea.

Over the past week, Russia has only increased the number of attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages. During this time, Russian troops launched more than 2,100 missiles, drones, and bombs.
